Important Reminder: Last week, students brought home "family interview" questions about their family history. Some students have still not completed their interview. Please complete them tonight and bring them back to school tomorrow so that all students can get started on their collage. In order to personalize their collage, students may want to include family photos. These photos will be well taken care of, and included in a wonderful project that will be sent home at the end of the month.  :) Mrs. Rowein

Happy Monday! Its another busy week full of new learning. Here are a few things parents will need to support their children with: 1. Science- your student has been asked to collect trash (can be recyclable items or not) to bring to school for a project on Friday. Please make sure anything they are collecting is clean and safe to handle. 2. Health- Grade fours brought home a short and simple interview to help start conversation around changes during puberty. 3. Social Studies- All students brought home interview questions to examine their own family's experiences with immigration. This information will be very important to students, as it is the basis for their next big Social Studies project. Please answer the questions in detail with your child and send them back to school by Friday April 16.  :) Mrs. Rowein

I hope everyone had a lovely Spring Break! Today in Language Arts, we had some fun with the book "How to Lose All Your Friends." It is a sarcastic "How to" story. As a class, we picked a couple funny topics and brainstormed our own ways to use humor and sarcasm in writing.  In Math, grade three began their unit on telling time. We are starting easy with digital clocks this week, and will be moving into analog clocks and real world problems involving time. Before Spring Break, students created a visual timeline of how the land in Alberta has changed in the past 200 years. Today, students observed their work, and were asked to write about the changes they see. Then, they were challenged to think about the different perspectives that groups of people may have about the change in our lang. Our new unit in Science is Waste in Our World. We are starting with perhaps the most important topic, which is reducing waste. Stopping waste before it even starts is the best way to...

Have a Great Spring Break!

Just a reminder that our spring break starts tomorrow! Our first day back at school will be Tuesday, April 6. I hope everyone takes time to have some fun and enjoy the change of season this spring break! :) Mrs. Rowein

The countdown is on for Spring Break! Students have been busy wrapping up projects and units before their week off. In Language Arts, students have now finished writing their Important Books. We are also reading a class novel called A Boy Called BAT. In Math, grade 3 have finished their unit on measurement and perimetre. This week we are having some fun with mental math, and learning thinking strategies that can help us with math in the real world. Science ended in a frustrating fashion. I had purchased a building kit to create cars. Unfortunately, the materials were very flimsy, and as hard as we tried to problem solve, most of our cars ended up breaking apart when we tried to make them move. It did teach us a lesson in patience and the importance of strong materials when building! Our most recent Social Studies unit is wrapping up as well. Today, students completed a writing assessment where they answered our "Big Question" for the unit in paragraph form. Now, we are creat...

March 9, 2021

This week in Language Arts students have started a new writing task. They are creating their own "Important Book" centered around the theme of nature. As a class, our current learning target is to write with proper sentence structure. Many students are starting sentences with "and" or "so" which is a habit we need to get out of!  In Math, grade three have been applying their knowledge of measurement to the concept of perimeter. In Science, students continue to work on our combined units around testing materials and design and building devices that move. Today, they were challenged to think of how they could design a simple vehicle that would move by itself. It proved to be quite the challenge for many kids! Some great ideas they came up with were balloons and fans to use air to move the car, or winding an elastic around the axles. Stay tuned to hear about the fun cars they will be building next week! This week in Social Studies students are diving deeper i...

March is National Nutrition Month

Students have been celebrating National Nutrition Month with Eat the Rainbow in our classroom. It is great to see the kids enjoying fruits and vegetables as part of a nutritious lunch and snack. Another way to help kids develop healthy habits is to involve them in the kitchen. Below is a link to one of my favourite websites. It is packed with resources and recipes that your kids will love. Over the weekend, invite your child into the kitchen and spend some quality time cooking together! :) Mrs. Rowein https://www.superhealthykids.com/
