This week in Language Arts we started Literature Circles! Think of it as a book study for kids. Students are organized into small groups that read together. Then, they practice different ways of responding to their reading. Ask your child which book they are reading and how they are liking it!

In Math, grade threes continue to learn beginner multiplication strategies. This week we have been focused on multiplying using equal groups. The kids even made their own word problems to show their understanding of equal groups.

We started a new unit in Social Studies. Students are investigating two groups of Indigenous people who traditionally lived in very different regions: The Dene People from the Boreal Forest, and the Blackfoot people from the Grasslands.

We are almost done our unit on hearing and sound- next week everyone will need to bring a small box or container for a project on sound proofing!

There have been some issues with lunch and snack lately. Many students do not eat much during lunch because they are busy talking and being silly. Then at "snack time" they take 20 minutes to eat because they are starving. We also have students that ask for a snack every day. We have a breakfast program, but not a snack program. Unfortunately we do not have the resources to provide students with a snack every day. Please pack a small snack for your child to eat in the afternoon. Please talk to them about eating their lunch at lunch time, and saving a small snack for snack time. From now on, they will only be allowed to bring one snack into the classroom in the afternoon.
